Summary:The program works to improve the level and relevance of science education through participation of science academies and the most prominent scientists in America working together with teachers and educational authorities. Main focus has been on improving the quality of education in elementary school, mainly by the implementation of Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) national programs.
A few programs have grown and are moving beyond primary education, others are in the pilot phase and others are in the embryonic stage. International cooperation is vital at all stages.
IndagaLa, a web page to assist Latin-American teachers in IBSE programs was created. Other activities include interchange of best practices in professional development for teachers and other efforts to make science an important part of national culture.
