Royal Society publishes report on Resilience to Extreme Weather
The Royal Society has recently published its latest major report, Resilience to Extreme Weather. Chaired by Professor Georgina Mace CBE FRS, this international project explores the risks posed to people by extreme weather events, and evaluates a range of options for building people’s resilience to them. It is designed to help inform important decisions about adaptation and risk reduction that are being made at global, national and local levels, especially international frameworks for disaster risk reduction, sustainable development and climate change next year.
The report was launched at the Commonwealth Science Conference in Bangalore on 27 November 2014, and has been presented at the International Symposium on Weather and Climate Extremes, Food Security and Biodiversity, and the AMASA meeting of African science academies, as well as to members of the Science and Technology Major Group involved in negotiating a successor to the UN Hyogo Framework for Action. Plans to further disseminate the report are being developed.
