Biography

Dr Sophie Harman is Reader in International Politics at Queen Mary University of London and Visiting Professor at HEARD, University of KwaZulu-Natal. Sophie conducts research into global health politics and Africa and International Relations. She has published widely on these topics, most notably in her books Global Health Governance, The World Bank and HIV/AIDS, The Global Politics of Health Reform in Africa, and African Agency in International Politics. Sophie is Editor of the journals Review of International Studies and Global Society. She is on the executive board of the International Studies Association Global Health section, and was co-convenor of the British International Studies Association Global Health working group. She is the founding trustee of the NGO Trans Tanz and in 2016 produced her first ever feature film Pili based on the life of a woman living with HIV in Tanzania, which will premiere at an international film festival in 2017. Sophie has worked as consultant to the Health Promotion team at the World Health Organisation (WHO).
